ON THIS DAY....

Everyday, someone somewhere in the world does something incredibly remarkable. Everyday, someone makes History. Even now as you are reading this, some scientist is probably screaming "Eureka!"; some researcher is probably putting the final piece into a puzzle...people are making things happen!

Today is the 18th of March, I did a little research and found out some historical things that happened on this day. Here are some but a few:

1965 Space First Man to walk in space 18th March, 1965: A Soviet cosmonaut known as Lt. Col. Alexei Leonov exited the spacecraft Voskshod II for a short “spin”. He completed a somersault, and then proceeded to take pictures of space. This took place just days before the U.S. planned to launch its first two-man spaceship and becomes the first man to walk in space.

1992 South Africa Apartheid 18th March, 1992: The beginning of the end of white rule and apartheid in South Africa came today when White South Africans voted for political reforms to end apartheid and create a power-sharing multi-racial government.

1989 In Egypt, a 4,400-year-old mummy is found in the Pyramid of Cheops.

How True Is This?
I stumbled upon this very interesting piece of information. It's an answer to a question that i keep asking myself every time i happen to be eating french fries...I don't know how true this is though. Maybe we can all do some research and share what we find!

March 18, 1784 was the discovery by a poor Irish potato farmer [ Pat O'mally O'brien ] of the french fry-resulting from a nasty slip on a cow pie causing his sliced 'papa' to fall into a pot of grease he had boiling for some wood project --well the rest is history as they would say.

Moral of the story
Seize this day and give it your best. Tell yourself you are going to make history, and work towards achieving it. Time is very valuable, every second, every minute counts. Your history might be as planned  as the 1965 space walk, or as accidental as the discovery of french fries. Either way, strive to leave a mark each day. Make things happen!

NUFAISHA GIRLS....22DAYS TO GO

 Introduction
The Nufaisha Girls Program has only 22days left to go! So excited! For those who are still wondering what this is all about, I will give you a small introduction so that you won't have an excuse to miss this. To do so, I am going to try and answer all the "5Ws" and "H"

What?
A residential mentorship program that creates a forum through which girls will be initiated into adulthood.

Who?
The program targets young girls who are transitioning from "Girls to Women". Therefore, it is a program for teenage girls; age bracket 13-18.

When?
The program is set to run from April 16th to 20th. Since most girls in this age group are in high school...having it during school holidays is the best time!

Where?
As I mentioned earlier, it is a residential/boarding event. The girls will be hosted at Wildlife Clubs of Kenya.

Why?
The program aims at preparing girls to deal with challenges and changes that occur during the teenage to adulthood  transition. There so many issues that come with teenage; issues that cannot be solved by sitting in a classroom. This is where the mentorship program comes in. Nufaisha will tap into the strengths of successful women and men, who by dint of their high achievements, experience and recognition will inspire younger generations.

How?
The girls will undergo different sessions which include:
  • mentorship sessions
  • team-building activities
  • aerobics and wellness
  • corporate visits
  • sports activities
  • graduation dinner
So there you have it! Spread the word, bring your sisters, daughters, aunts, cousins, friend...every girl out there that you care for, and you know will benefit from this Program.
